Kunoy (village)

Kunoy [ ku ː nɪ ] " Ladies Island " (Danish: Kuno ) is a place of the Faroe Islands on the island of the same Kunoy.

Kunoy located in the sole of a westward open Trogtals amidst a panorama of over 800 m high mountains. The view over the Kalsoyarfjørður to the neighboring island Kalsoy completes the scene. The place consists of three parts, the village Heima í HUSI means.

The place has about 70 inhabitants and is adjacent Haraldssund the only place on the island. Together they form the municipality Kunoyar municipal. Since 1988, the two places are connected by a road tunnel. Previously a wrong passenger ferry from Strandfaraskip Landsins Klaksvík.

The only land connection before the tunnel was around a route around the southern tip of the island, just above the banks. The road still exists today and is relatively easy to commit. The church in the village dates from 1867. It was started on May 20 of the year and was already completed on 17 October. All involved in the construction were people from the island. The builder was a certain Símun Ericsen from Haraldssund, who was then also the Church of Klaksvík built. On the 1st of Advent 1867, the church was consecrated. On 13 April 1992, the provincial government introduced the Faroe Islands, the church and its cemetery under monument protection. Nevertheless, they continue to be used.

Another attraction is the small, old watermill in the village by the stream mylla. Your roof is covered with grass. The mill was built so that it can fulfill its purpose with little water.
