Kunrau is a district of the city blocks in the Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

Kunrau lies in the west of the Altmark. The place is located near the wetland Drömling. Dwelling places of the village are Belfort, Hahnberg and the colony Kunrau.

History

Kunrau is a Wendish foundation. The name comes from the old Slavic Koni and means " Pferdeort ". In 1850 Kunrau had about 350 inhabitants, 48 houses, a school house with one teacher, five arable farms, 32 landowners, 30 depositors as well as a pitcher, windmill, sheep farm, distillery, brewery and brickyard.

1889 Kunrau was connected across the railway line Salzwedel - Oebisfelde to the railway network. 2002, this line was closed and set up a corresponding bus line for passenger traffic.

Kunrau has an active club life (seniors, sports, equestrian sports, choir ). Many buildings have been modernized, a settlement was built homes, planted trees and created discounts with greening.

Due to a change in the contract area, the municipal council of the municipality Kunrau decided on 9 January 2009 that the community Kunrau is incorporated into the city blocks. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

After incorporation of the previously autonomous municipality Kunrau be Kunrau and Rappin districts of the city blocks. Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 15 July 1999 by the regional council of Magdeburg.

Blazon: "In a rising gold black horse; right a green edge, pale as covered with a golden bebutzten silver daisy between two rising silver willow leaves. "

The main motive - horse in the levade - refers to the Slavic origin of the place name ( Kon = horse). The green edge with the silver willow leaves symbolizes the forest and pasture ( Drömling ) to Kunrau. For this purpose the silver daisy from the ancient seal of the manor was acquired.

The colors of Kunrau - derived from the coat of arms - are black - gold ( yellow).

The coat of arms was designed by Ernst Albrecht heraldist Fiedler.

Flag

The flag is black - yellow ( 1:1) striped ( Hissflagge: stripes from top to bottom; cross flag: Stripes from left to right ) to the issued coat of arms of the former municipality. The flag can take the form of Hissflagge, the cross flag, the Hanging flag, the banner and pennant.

Castle

The centrally located castle Kunrau was built in the Italian Renaissance style in the 19th century. In the castle the office of the Tourist Association Jeetze - ear - Drömling eV and housed the library. Also located in the castle are a " Ökoschule " and a nature experience center. In the Ökoschule school classes will be informed of the nature park Drömling with its diverse flora and fauna and can through projects and experiments to get to know and learn the secrets of nature itself. The castle park is partly designed as a tree park. Many ancient copies of various tree species can be seen here.

Personalities

  • Theodor Hermann Rimpau (1822-1888) lived in Kunrau, founder of the bog mounds. According to him, the primary school ( former Kunrauer secondary school) is named.
