Kunshan

Kunshan (Kunshan Shì昆山 市) is a county-level city, which belongs to the administrative area of the prefecture-level city of Suzhou in the southern Chinese province of Jiangsu. Kunshan has an area of 865 square kilometers and about 679 800 inhabitants ( end of 2007). For the end of 2004 637 200 inhabitants were given.

In Kunshan one of the oldest opera types, Kunqu Opera was born. 1992 Kunqu Museum was built in the city center. The museum is stylistically a mixture of a pavilion and an ancient opera stage.

The Neolithic archaeological site Chuodun ( Chuodun Yizhi绰 墩 遗址) - an important for knowledge of the history of wet rice cultivation site - is since 2006 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 6-76 ).

Kunshan is also known as the birthplace of Gong Xian and Song Qingling.

The city is connected by a fast train, which leads among other things, on the Great Bridge Danyang - Kunshan with the Chinese capital.

The German town of Kehl is friends with Kunshan.

Administratively located Kunshan is composed of ten major communities. These are:
