The NRW Art Foundation was established in 1989 by the state government of North Rhine- Westphalia. The aim of the Foundation is to support special projects for documentation and presentation of works of art, to make the acquisition and preservation of works of art that are for North Rhine -Westphalia of paramount importance, it is possible to promote young artists and international cultural and artistic exchange.

Prices

The Foundation awards several prizes, including the 25,000 euro Translation Prize of the Arts Foundation NRW, the Nam June Paik Award ( Media Art Award NRW) and in collaboration with other sponsors a movie NRW, which is awarded at the Cologne KunstFilmBiennale.

Since 2011, the Foundation also awards the Mauricio Kagel Music Prize of the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia.
