Kuntzig

Kuntzig ( German Künzig ) is a commune with 1201 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Thionville -Est and Canton Metzervisse.

Geography

Kuntzig is located about six kilometers east of Thionville, in the valley of the river Bibiche, at an altitude 161-200 m above sea level. The municipality covers 4.51 km ².

History

The town was first mentioned in 792 as Kuntziago, since the name was changed several times: first in Cunzcun in the 12th century, then around 1370 in Cunzich and later in 1414 in Kuntzich. Since 1659 the place belonged to France and was called since 1681 Kanzich. It was shortly thereafter Kuntzick and ultimately the current name Kuntzig.

From 1811 to 1902 he was incorporated in Distroff. Until 31 December 1988 the neighboring town was Stuckange part of the community Kuntzig.
