Kunvald

Kunvald ( German Kunwald ) is a Městys in the Czech Republic. He located five kilometers northeast of Žamberk in the region Pardubice Region.

History

Kunwald was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century. Led to Silesia About the origin of the name Kunwald, by several trade routes through the Glatz, there are several assumptions. At one of these could have been caused by German settlers, is also a possible derivation of the name of the Knight Kuna, who moved to the nearby castle Sucha and the additional forest through the scenic expression of interest. A third version assumes the naming by settlers from the Upper Lausitz, where there was a village of the same name with Cunewalde.

The first written record dates from 1363, when Jan Peter was appointed in Nekoř of Třebova (Jan Petr z Třebové ) to the pastor. 1389 acquired Boček II of Podiebrad Kunwald which connected it with his rule Lititz.

1453 followers pursued the religious community of the Bohemian Brethren settled in Kunwald, that was in possession of the later King George of Podiebrad at that time, with the permission of Utraquists January Rokycana down. He moved in 1457 to the believing brothers to Kunwald, the first " Fratres Legis Christi " ( Brothers of the law of Christ ) called themselves and to the brothers Synod in 1467 in nearby Lhotka renamed the " Unitas Fratrum " ( Unity of the Brethren ) or " Fratres unitatis " (United brethren ) decided. After their own priests and bishops were ordained by the Synod decision, there was a separation of the Utraquists, who were thereby endangered. Subsequently, the Brethren renewed persecution was suspended. Your faithful then met in Modlivý dul ( Gebetstal ). The 1467 consecrated Bishop Matthias of Kunwald ( Matěj z Kunvaldu ) officiated until 1494 as a senior member of the Moravian Church.

Since 2008 Kunvald is a Městys again.
