Kuorevesi

Kuorevesi [ ˌ kuo̯reʋ ʋesi ] is a former municipality in Finland and is now a part of the city Jämsä.

The former municipality is located on the eponymous Lake Kuorevesi about 30 kilometers west of the central city of Jämsä. At the time of its municipal independence Kuorevesi belonged to the landscape Pirkanmaa, with the incorporation to Jämsä it came to the landscape of Central Finland. Capital of the municipality of Kuorevesi was located at the north end of the Eväjärvi Lake City Halli. Overall, the municipality covered an area of 334.2 square kilometers. Last Kuorevesi had 3024 inhabitants ( 1997).

Kuorevesi originally belonged to the parish Längelmäki from which it seceded in 1873 as an independent community. 2001 Kuorevesi was incorporated into the city Jämsä.

Built in 1779 the church of Kuorevesi is located on a peninsula in Lake Kuorevesi. There is a wooden church with a rectangular floor plan and west tower.
