Kupiansk

Kupjansk (Ukrainian Купьянськ; Russian Купянск / Kupjansk ) is a town in eastern Ukrainian Kharkiv Oblast with about 30,000 inhabitants ( 2013). Is Kupjansk, to Kharkiv, the second largest railway junction of the oblast on the railway line opened in 1896 Belgorod ( Russia ) Kupjansk.

Geography

History

Founded in 1655, Kupjansk has since 1779 the status of a city. In the 19th century the city was the administrative center of Ujesd Kupjansk in the government of Kharkov. Kupjansk was occupied on June 24, 1942 to January 3, 1943 by troops of the German Wehrmacht.
