Kura nase

Chondrostoma Cyri, also Kura - nose and nose - Kurinsky, подуст куринский in Russian and Shekamsiah -e- Aras in Persian belongs to the carp family (Cyprinidae ).

Dissemination

Chondrostoma Cyri occurs in waters of Western Asia. The species is widespread in the river basin of the Kura in the Caucasus and occurs in some countries of the former Soviet Union. Chondrostoma Cyri lives in rivers of Georgia, Armenia and Iran.

Description

The genus name comes from the ancient Greek and means Chondrostoma chondros = cartilage and stoma = mouth. It refers to the characteristic of the horny layer on the lower lip. The fish are 20 inches long on average. Chondrostoma Cyri has an elongated body shape and silvery scales, some with pigment spots.

Way of life

Little is known about the life of Chondrostoma Cyri. The fish live Benthopelagic and feed on plants, insects falling into the water and the larvae of aquatic insects.
