Kurakhove
Kurachowe (Ukrainian Курахове; Russian Курахово / Kurachowo ) is a city in Ukraine with a population of 20,000 ( 2013).
Geography
Kurachowe lies in the west of the Donetsk Oblast on the left bank of the dam Kurachower, congestion of Wowtscha River. The town is located about 50 km west of Donetsk on the highway H15 (see also: highways of Ukraine).
Administratively belongs to the city council community adjacent to the city and the urban-type settlement Illinka ( Іллінка ), the village Stepaniwka ( Степанівка ) and the settlements Ostriwske ( Острівське ) and Stari Terny ( Старі Терни ).
The local railway station is located in the eastern district of Roja.
History
Kurachowe originated in 1936 from a working class settlement, which was built for workers from the nearby power plant, and was until 1943 the name Kurachowgrjesstroj ( Кураховгрэсстрой ), then to 1956 Kurachowgrjes ( Кураховгрэс ). In the district of Roja was until 1950 a POW camp. In 1956, the village was so far increased that it was declared a town.
