Kurban (band)

Kurban is a Turkish rock band from Istanbul, which existed from 1995 to 2005 and since December 31, 2006 is active again. So far, the band released four albums. The fourth ( Sahip ) was released on March 22, 2010.

History

Kurban was founded in 1995 under the name Outside and initially played only songs in English. In 1997 the band name was changed to Kurban, while also addressing the final exchange took place in Turkish.

In March of 1999 the band released their first self-titled album Kurban. In the same year Kurban appeared as the opening act for Metallica at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium. Then the emigrated to the United States Umut Gokcen was replaced by the new guitarist Ozgur Kankaynar in August 2000. The albums Sert (2004) and insanlar ( 2005).

The last major appearance was Kurban 2005 on the rock Istanbul as the opening act for Megadeth. Due to the excessive pressure that weighed on the singer Deniz Yılmaz, and the fact that the last album insanlar was only sold about 25,000 times in the first month, the band broke up in June 2005. While Deniz Yılmaz joined the group panic, the drummer Burak Gürpınar joined the popular rock band Athena. The band leader and bassist Kerem Tüzün began with Demir Demirkan a collaboration that was still going on after the reunification of Kurban. In 2006, the album Kurban of the magazine Blue Jean was voted fourth in the " 30 best albums in the history of the Turkish Rocks ".

On 30 December 2006, the band announced their reunion for the next day. Even after four weeks, the band began to give concerts. But the beginning of 2007, launching tour was interrupted from 25 February for about 15 months, as Deniz Yılmaz had to do his military service. Upon his return, the concerts were continued.

As of September 2009, the band announced their new album called Sahip, the time frame could not be observed. After January 1, 2010 at 00:00 clock a song ( Soykıran ) was released from the new album on the official website as a New Year surprise for the fans, and another song ( Ifrit ) to the Turkish radio station Radyo D - 20 March 2010 was introduced, the new album Sahip appeared after a long introductory period finally on March 20, 2010 in Istanbul.

The name Kurban

" Kurban " is Turkish and means " sacrifice / oblation ." The idea came from the singer of the band, Deniz Yılmaz. When asked how he came to the name, he said in an interview in the magazine heygirl (1999): " Ilk Basta biz bu pop piyasasında kesin kurban oluruz [ ... ] diye düşünüyorduk. [ ... ] Bir de yakınlık Ifadesi zaten, Kardes anlamına because geliyor. [ ... ] " Translation: " In the beginning we thought we would fall victim to the pop market. Also, it's a term of affection, it means somehow, too buddy ( sl ). "

As a reference to the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice (Turkish: Kurban Bayramı ) the image of a sheep graces the cover of the first two albums Kurban and Sert.
