Kuria Labeo

Labeo gonius, Eng. Kuria Labeo, in Bengali গনি, কুর্চি, ঘান্যা, ঘোনিয়া, ঘাইন্না, Khursa Bata or Shada Gonia is a large growing Karpfenfischart from Southeast Asia.

Description

The species has a dark green back and silvery bright edges. Labeo gonius has the following formula fins: Dorsal 13-16, Anal 5-6. Kuria Labeo can be up to 150 inches long. The largest captive specimen of Labeo gonius weighed over 30 kg.

Distribution and habitat

Kuria Labeo is native to rivers in the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal, such as Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Especially frequently it is in Assam, Darjeeling, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa. The area of ​​distribution extends to the Krishna River on the east coast. This species was also introduced in Afghanistan and Nepal. Although ponds not belong to the natural habitat of Labeo gonius, it can be cultivated there.

Way of life

The spawning season in Bangladesh starts with the beginning of south-west monsoon. Kuria Labeo is very fertile, the weight of the ovaries may be up to 87 % of body weight.

Benefit
