Kurin

Kurin (Ukrainian курінь; Russian курень, cures ) is an established by the Cossack military term for a military formation.

In the army of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, he was a military administrative unit equivalent to a battalion of 400 to 800 men. At the end of the existence of the Zaporozhian Sich, this was divided into 38 Kurin, who were named after the place or the region of origin of their members ( as Kaniwer, Korsun, Umaner or Poltava Kurin ).

At present, the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Sitscher shooters were initially organized as a Kurin, which was later extended. After the overthrow of Pavlo Skoropadskyj the Kurin was dissolved.

As Kurin / cures also the central economic and administrative buildings of the corresponding Cossack unit was called.
