Kurkliai

Kurkliai (Polish: Kurkle ) is a town ( miestelis ) in northeastern Lithuania.

Location and population

Kurkliai located in Utena district in the Rajongemeinde anykščiai 15 km south of the main town of the municipality. The place had 2001 474 inhabitants and is the seat of the homonymous administrative district ( Kurklių seniūnija ).

Attractions

Local attractions include the wooden synagogue and the wooden church in the town. The synagogue was used during the Soviet Union as a barn and is in modern times in a poor condition. In regional park anykščiai ( Anykščių regioninis parkas ) is the huge boulder Puntukas with a mass of about 265 tons. This boulder was posted here about 18,000 years ago, the Ice Age, from Finland ago. In him the two portraits of the Lithuanian Atlantic flyer Darius and Girėnas were attached.
