Kurt Eichhorn

Kurt Peter Eichhorn (* August 4, 1908 in Munich, † 29 June 1994 Murnau ) was a German conductor.

The son of a painter studied at the conservatory in Würzburg at Hermann Zilcher and debuted in 1932 as conductor and choral conductor in Bielefeld. After working in Teplice and Karlsbad 1941, he was appointed at the Dresden Semper Opera Music Director. In addition, he also worked with the Dresden Philharmonic. In 1945 he was entrusted with the management of the Munich Philharmonic. In Munich, then played most of his career as he has conducted at the Bavarian State Opera, 1956-67 he was chief conductor of the State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz. 1967-1975 he worked as chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra. At the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich, he headed a conducting class.

We are especially famous its Orff recordings he realized with the Munich Radio Orchestra. A recording of the complete symphonies of Bruckner with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, which he began in the late 80s, remains unfinished. The published Symphonies No. 2 and Nos. 5-9 are counted by many critics in addition to the recordings, for example, by Günter Wand to valid Bruckner recordings of the late 20th century.
