Kurt Lilien
Kurt lilies, native Kurt Lilienthal, ( born August 6, 1882 in Berlin, † May 28 1943 in the concentration camp Sobibor, Poland ) was a German actor.
Life
Lily began his career 20 years old at the Berlin " intimate theater ". His other stage stations were the municipal theater Wesel, the Berliner Ensemble and the New Vaudeville Operetta Theatre in Leipzig. 1908 to 1920 he worked at the Carl Schultze Theatre in Hamburg, then he was again active in Berlin.
Lily was a popular operetta and revue star in the 1920s, especially in the revues of Herman Haller. As a heavyset character actor he appeared since 1919 in secondary roles in the film. Until 1933 was to see Lily in numerous silent and sound films, often unsympathetic role in the bourgeois and nouveau riche.
After the transfer of power to the Nazis in 1933 he could because of his Jewish origin no longer work in Germany and fled to the Netherlands. There he found employment with the equally emigrated Rudolf Nelson. After the German invasion in May 1940, he was deported to the Westerbork transit camp in 1943 and deported to the Sobibor extermination camp, where he virtually all prisoners was driven by the " Road to Heaven ' straight to the gas chamber as and died.
