Kurt Lingens

Kurt Lingens ( born May 31, 1912 in Dusseldorf ) is a German doctor, who was honored by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.

Life

The physician Dr. Kurt Lingens was a German citizen, in 1933 excluded because of his membership in an anti-fascist group of students from all German universities.

In the summer of 1942, the deportations of Jews from Vienna began. Many Jews turned to the couple Lingens for help. Some of them had stored their valuables in the family Lingens before their deportation.

When Kurt Lingens was with his wife Ella, asks the summer of 1942 by the Polish underground movement, with which it worked to carry out the illegal transfer of two Jewish couples of brothers Jacob and Bernard Goldstein, he took a couple to live with him and found for the other a suitable hiding place.

On October 13, 1942 Karl Motesiczky, Kurt Lingens and his wife Ella were arrested on members of the Polish resistance movement and the issuance of fake IDs because of financial aid. This Kurt Lingens was separated from his three year old son. Motesiczky and the couple Lingens were taken to the Gestapo headquarters in the former Hotel Metropol on Morzinplatz. Kurt Lingens was transferred after a brief detention of a criminal unit.

After the war he worked in a children's hospital in Vienna and emigrated to America, where he worked as a psychiatrist.
