Kurt Moll

Kurt Moll ( born April 11, 1938 in Kerpen Buir in ) is a German opera singer in the bass voice.

Career

In his youth Moll learned to play guitar and cello and was a soloist in the school choir. Then he studied at the Cologne University of Music and privately with Emmy Müller in Krefeld. At age 20 he began his professional career at the Cologne Opera, and shortly thereafter was invited to Aachen. This was followed by the Mainz State Theatre and a contract was the first bass player in Wuppertal.

At the Bayreuth Festival, he made ​​his debut in 1967 and in 1970 he had his international breakthrough at the Salzburg Festival as Sarastro ( Die Zauberflöte). In 1972 he made ​​his debut in La Scala in Milan as Osmin (The Abduction from the Seraglio ), 1974 his U.S. debut in San Francisco as Gurnemanz ( Parsifal ). At the Metropolitan Opera in New York for the first time he worked in the 1979 season and sang, among others, the Rocco ( Fidelio ) and Sparafucile ( Rigoletto ).

His career took him to Hamburg, Vienna, Bayreuth, Salzburg and Munich and he is Bavarian, Hamburg and Vienna Chamber singers and singing professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne.

On 31 July 2006, Kurt Moll adopted in the role of the night watchman in Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Munich Opera Festival of the opera stage. He had previously announced that he would retire for health reasons from the opera stage.

Repertoire

In the center of Kurt Moll's repertoire includes the great bass roles of Mozart, Wagner and Strauss, but he also sang bass roles of Carl Maria von Weber as the Hermit in Der Freischütz, or the Inquisitor in Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev's opera The Fiery Angel, Op 37

Roles as Osmin, Sarastro, Falstaff or GURNEMANZ has also sung in plates productions under, inter alia, Sir Georg Solti, Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm Wolfgang Sawallisch and Kurt Moll.

Kurt Moll is also a prolific singer of songs. He took the 1983 song cycle Winterreise by Franz Schubert with Cord sheaves as a companion on the piano on. In addition, he also took up two CDs with ballads of Carl Loewe as part of a complete recording of the Loewe songs with the same piano accompanist in 1996.

Private

Kurt Moll is married to Ursula Minor and has three children.
