Kurt Redel

Kurt Redel ( born October 8, 1918 in Breslau, † February 12, 2013 in Munich) was a German flutist and conductor.

Redel studied at the Conservatory of Breslau Orchestral Conducting, Flute, violin, composition and music history. In 1938 he became principal flutist of the Meininger country chapel. In the same year, the age of twenty, he became Professor of Flute at the Salzburg Mozarteum. In 1941 he went as a solo flutist of the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich. From 1946 to 1956 he was professor of flute at the Northwest German Music Academy, now the University of Music Detmold. His students included Karlheinz Zoeller.

1952 Redel founded in Munich Chamber Orchestra Pro Arte, with whom he gave numerous concerts and award-winning recordings made ​​, especially the works of Bach, Telemann, Haydn and Mozart. Twenty years he headed the Easter Festival of Lourdes founded by him, besides he has worked with many major orchestras in Europe. For his work he received numerous awards, including several times the Grand Prix du Disque, the Prix Orphée of the Paris Opera, the Grand Prix Edison in Amsterdam and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class.
