Kurt Steyrer

Kurt Steyr ( born June 3, 1920 in Linz, † July 16, 2007 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ).

Life

Kurt Steyrer studied medicine in Vienna and at the University of Prague (Ph.D. 1945). In 1951 he opened a specialist practice as a dermatologist. From 1952 to 1981 he was the company doctor at the Simmering -Graz -Pauker AG.

1946 joined Steyrer the SPÖ and the Socialist Medical Association, whose chairman he was from 1961 to 1968.

From 1975 to 1983, Kurt Steyrer Member of Parliament, from 1981 to 1985 Federal Minister for Health and Environmental Protection under Bruno Kreisky and Fred Sinowatz. In his time as Minister of the Environment of the political paradigm shift fell at the major parties in the direction of "green ideas ".

In the presidential election in 1986, he ran on a proposal by Fred Sinowatz. He was defeated in the second round Kurt Waldheim.

1987/88 he was a member and retired spokesman for the Vienna City Council.

1987 to 1989 he was president of the ARBÖ.

Steyr is buried at the Central Cemetery (Group 2, row 31, grave number 7).
