Kurt Sulzenbacher

Kurt Sulzenbacher ( born October 29, 1976 in Innichen ) is an Italian former Alpine skier. The special discipline of the South Tyrolean was the descent. In this discipline, he achieved two podium finishes and another 15 top-10 results in the World Cup, in 2003 Italian Champion and 1995 World Junior Champion.

Career

The first big success of his career succeeded the then 18 -year-old Sulzenbacher at the Junior World Championship in 1995 in the Norwegian Voss with the victory in the downhill. In the European Cup he had in the early years significantly less success, to him in the departure of Altenmarkt scored his first podium on 19 December 1998. Ten days later he was in the departure of his World Cup debut Bormio, bringing with rank 30 is equal to its first ever World Cup point. In his third World Cup downhill in March 1999 in Kvitfjell he already reached the 18th place and a year later he also drove in Kvitfjell first time in the top ten.

The World Cup season 2001/ 02 was successful Sulzenbachers: On December 8, 2001, he drove in the downhill in Val d'Isere to second place and for the first time on the podium, a week later he was this performance with third place on the Saslong confirm in Val Gardena. In January, he reached in the downhill on the Streif in Kitzbühel fourth place and finished the season in eighth place in the downhill World Cup. This winter, he started at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, managed there but only the 22 exit 26 and third place in the Super -G.

The following season was less successful, only to end of the season he reached a tenth place in the downhill in Lillehammer. Also in the 2003 World Cup he did not come on the 19th place in the downhill addition. But in March he won the Italian Cup exit. The 2003/04 season was even worse than the previous one, a 14th and 16th place in the downhill on Beaver Creek had the best results. In the season 2004/ 05 he was able to increase again slightly and reached the top 10 five times, at the World Championships in Bormio, he finished 14 places in the downhill and super-G 20. The next winter he fell back again, finishing at the Olympic Games in Turin, the 18th rank departure. Also in the World Cup season 2006/ 07 he only reached a top 10 ranking, the World Championships in Åre, he finished with 14 downhill rank.

In the 2007 /08 season, he no longer came with the fourth place in the departure of Lake Louise on November 24, the podium as close as a long time and reached two other placements in the top ten. In the 2008 /09 season, he could deny only a single race and had to undergo in January because of cysts in the knee surgery. Sulzenbacher did not return to the World Cup circus and ended his career.
