Kurt Tschenscher

Kurt Tschenscher ( born October 5, 1928, in Hindenburg OS ) is a former German football referee. He was regarded in the 1960s as one of the world's top football referee. He directed 53 internationals, two European finals, 126 Bundesliga games, a DFB Cup final and the last final of the German Cup, before taking the Bundesliga.

Life

Kurt Tschenscher played as a teenager in Prussia Hindenburg in his Upper Silesian homeland football. After his release from the American prisoner of war he came from Austria via Heilbronn to Mannheim, where he joined VfL Neckarau. He was soon appointed head of the youth department. In August 1948, he put in the football circle Mannheim from the examination to the referee. It was founded in 1958 FIFA referee and headed in the same year his first international match. In 1962, he refereed the replay of the final of the European Cup of Cup Winners Atlético Madrid against AC Fiorentina. A year later, he led the last final of the German Cup, where Borussia Dortmund won against 1 FC Cologne. Another highlight of his career was the line of the final of the European Cup of Champions 1966/67, between Celtic and Inter Milan in Lisbon.

In the Bundesliga, he was active from the first season 1963/64 until his retirement in late 1975. By FIFA, he was nominated to this day the only Impartial ever, for three FIFA World Cups: 1966 World Cup in England, the 1970 World Cup in Mexico and the 1974 World Cup in Germany. One of his most important missions was the semi-finals at the European Football Championship in 1968 between Italy and the Soviet Union. The game ended 0-0 after extra time (winner Italy to Los decision by coin toss ).

In the 1970 World Cup he was given the honor to whistle the opening match on May 31, 1970 in Mexico City between host Mexico and the Soviet Union. The game ended 0-0 also. In this game, he showed even a yellow card as the first referee. He had his most difficult task to be solved in the 1974 World Cup when he led the decisive game in the final between the Netherlands and Brazil for a place on 3 July 1974. The Netherlands won in Dortmund 2-0. Kurt Tschenscher had to refer after a brutal challenge of the field in the most hard-fought and hectic game the Brazilian team captain Luís Pereira. Overall, Kurt Tschenscher 17 years FIFA referee. Again, this is to date record. Tschenscher was active as a referee until 1976. He led about 1,800 games, including 173 international games.

He also led during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the final between Poland and Hungary, as well as the legendary DFB Cup final in 1973 between Borussia Moenchengladbach and 1.FC Cologne in which Günter Netzer scored his most famous goal.

As a functionary to Tschenscher committed as Lehrwart and vice chairman of the football circle Mannheim. He was Chairman of the Referees Committee of the South German Football Association and member of the DFB referee committee. For his services he received, among other things, in 1975 the Federal Cross of Merit and the Golden Badge of Honour of the DFB.
