Kurunegala District

Kurunegala is a district in the North West Province in Sri Lanka. It has an area of 4'816 km ². Capital is Kurunegala.

The population was 2001 1.460.215 persons according to the census.

Management

The head of the district is entitled District Secretary. The district is further divided into 30 divisions ( under a Division Secretary ). The cities and larger towns have their own government ( municipal council or municipal council ). There are 1,609 community councils ( Grama Niladharis ) for 4'509 villages throughout the district.
