Geography

Geographical location

Kuessaberg is ( the ruins Küssaburg to over 600 meters) located on the High Rhine in the middle between Basel and Lake Constance, about 8 km from the district town of Waldshut -Tiengen in 327-442 meters altitude.

The municipality is bordered to the north by Lauchringen, to the east by Unterklettgau and Hohentengen on the Upper Rhine, on the south by the Swiss municipalities Mellikon, Rekingen, Zurzach and Riet home in canton Aargau and in the west to the county town of Waldshut -Tiengen. In Rheinheim there is a border crossing into Switzerland and a road bridge to Zurzach.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the Kuessaberg to the 1970s independent municipalities Bechtersbohl, Dangstetten, Kadelburg, Küßnach, Reckingen and Rheinheim. For the former municipality Bechtersbohl include the village Bechtersbohl and the courts calibration heaps and Kuessaberg. For the former municipality Dangstetten include the village Dangstetten and the homestead Geißernhof and some relocated farms, which are located outside Dangstettens towards Reckingen. For the former municipality Kadelburg include the village Kadelburg and settlement and homestead Ettikon with Ettikonerhof, near the Lauffen. For the former municipality Küßnach include the village Küßnach and the courts Alkenhof, Hauackerhof, Markhofgasse, Rohrhof and Stüdlehof. Among the former municipalities Reckingen and Rheinheim each include only the villages of the same name. In the territory of the former municipality Dangstetten is the deserted village of Hausen reefs. In the territory of the former municipality Küßnach is the Outbound village Haslenhof.

History

Of national importance is the 1967 discovered Roman camp Dangstetten, which among other soldiers of the Legio XIX were stationed, which went down later in the so-called Battle of Varus. The excavator Gerhard Fingerlin dated the camp at the time of 15 BC to 9/8 BC and brings it to the so-called Alpine campaign of Drusus and Tiberius in conjunction. A recent processing of fine ceramics by Katrin Roth -Rubi suggests a slightly older dating to around 20 BC to 11 BC; the Fund portfolio overlap slightly in time with the Roman camp Oberaden.

By 1805, the town was part of the country county Unterklettgau, only Kadelburg was an outer office of the County of Baden. 1805 came Kadelburg and Unterklettgau of Baden to the Official Waldshut. 1847, the flying bridge was opened to Rietheim, which until 1939 in operation. In 1907, a road connection in Switzerland was created with the Rhine bridge Zurzach -Rhine home.

The municipality was created Kuessaberg on 1 January 1973 by the merger communities Dangstetten, Kadelburg, Küßnach, Reckingen and Rheinheim. On January 1, 1975, the community was incorporated into Bechtersbohl Kuessaberg.

Policy

The church is the seat of the local government association Kuessaberg the Kuessaberg and Hohentengen belong on the Upper Rhine. The Town Hall is in the town between the towns Rheinheim and Kadelburg.

Parish council

The council are after the local elections of 7 June 2009, in addition to the mayor as chairman, 21 members.

  • Worth seeing is the ruins Küssaburg that once dominated the Hochrheintal high above the town.
