Kutno

Kutno is a medium sized town in central Poland with 47,000 inhabitants. At the same time Kutno has the function of a county town in the region of Łódź.

History

The first documentary mention of the place comes from the year 1301, it is however believed that Kutno was founded in the 12th century. The town rights in 1432. In the years 1626-1629 the area around the city was heavily devastated in a war between Poland and Sweden. This meant the economic decline of Kutno.

In 1809 the General Jan Henryk Dabrowski takes in Kutno district, the city had at this time about 2,000 inhabitants. In the year 1827 4.620 inhabitants have already been counted. In 1862 the railway line was opened from Bydgoszcz to Warsaw, which runs through the city.

At the beginning of the Second World War, a campaign of the Polish Army under General Tadeusz Kutrzeba against the German attackers was held from 9 to 19 September 1939 in near Kutno instead. This offensive is now known as the Battle of the Bzura. After the annexation of Poland Kutno belonged to Reichsgau Warta country and was from 1939 to 1945 the seat of the German district Kutno.

Economy

Among the most important industries in the city include Teva Kutno SA, Fresenius Kabi S. A. and Polfarmex SA, belonging to the pharmaceutical industry. POLMOS S. A. is in the food industry veteran, kofola SA is a major beverage manufacturer, POLSAD - Renault Trucks is engaged in vehicle. An industrial area which is part of the Łódź Special Economic Zone ( Łódzka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna ) is on the European road 30 in Kutno. The site has an area of ​​40.66 hectares and offers investors tax benefits.

Traffic

Kutno is an important railway junction on the railway line Warsaw -Poznań. Here branches off the line 16 to Lodz, the line 18 via Bydgoszcz to Pila and the line 33 after Brodnica from.
