Kuttolsheim

Kuttolsheim (German Küttolsheim ) is a commune with 656 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is a former village of Empire and is situated on the edge of the plateau of the mountain in the cooker Souffeltal and is surrounded by the municipalities Fessenheim -le- Bas, Nordheim and Wintzenheim- Kochersberg.

History

Kuttolsheim lies on the old Roman road that led from Strasbourg to Saverne and is still partly used as road department.

Attractions

  • Sainte -Barbe chapel: classified as a monument historique; the tower was probably built in the 13th century near a sulfur water spring at the site of an older sanctuary. The ship dates from the 17th century.
  • Brimstone: known since the Roman era, then its water was passed to Strasbourg. The lake is a small natural pool of water in the distribution of the source Souffel. The output of the underground source reaches 17 liters per second, its temperature (around 12-13 ° C ) is constant and hence the lake never freezes. Due to the sulfur content of the water was up to the 1950s in thermal baths used since the time of the Romans, to relieve skin diseases.   • Church of Saint -Jacques -le- Majeur: the choir tower, built by the architect Bernach in the 12th century, has the classification as a Monument historique. Chancel and nave were built in 1865 after a fire.
  • Buddhist Temple: Since 1978 Kuttolsheim is one of the four places in Alsace, where there is a Buddhist center. Since it is the European Institute of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama has repeatedly been there.
