Kutztown is a district ( borough ) in Berks County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. According to the 2000 census it had 5,067 inhabitants in an area of 10.6 km ². The population density is 478 per km ².

History

George ( Coots ) Kutz purchased on June 16, 1755 by Peter Wentz, the much of the present-day Maxatawny Township owned, 130 acre (0.53 km ² ) of land, resulting in Kutztown was. Kutz published the first plan for the city in 1779. The first reason of the new civic Cootstown, which was later renamed in Kutztown, acquired in 1785 Adam Dietrich and Henry Schweier.

Kutztown was incorporated as a borough on April 7, 1815 and is the second oldest borough in Berks County to Reading, which was in 1783 raised to the Borough and in 1847 the City.

Like the rest of Berks County Kutztown was mainly colonized by Germans, mostly from the Palatinate of which dated.
