Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin

Kuzma Sergeevich Petrov- Vodkin (Russian Кузьма Сергеевич Петров - Водкин, scientific transliteration Kuz'ma Sergeevič Petrov -Vodkin, born 24 Oktoberjul / November 5 1878greg in Chwalynsk, .. † February 15, 1939 in Leningrad) was a Russian painter, graphic artist, art theorist, writer and educator.

Biography

Petrov- Vodkin was in town Chwalynsk (now Saratov Oblast ) born in the family of a shoemaker in 1878. The late 1890s, he studied painting and drawing in Samara and St. Petersburg at the Central School of Technical Drawing. In 1901 he continued his studies in Munich. He later moved to Moscow, where he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at Valentin Serov. In 1905 he finished his studies in Moscow and went to Paris to study at private schools there on. He also visited Italy and North Africa. In 1911 he became a member of the Association of the art world ( Мир искусства ) and 1924 the group Four Arts ( Четыре искусства ). In the period of the Soviet Union Petrov-Vodkin worked a lot as a graphic artist and playwright. He wrote stories and pieces and theoretical essays. From 1918 to 1933 he taught at the Free State Art Teacher studios ( Государственные свободные художественные учебные мастерские ) in Leningrad. 1932 to 1937 he was the first president of the St. Petersburg Artists' Association.
