KV19 Tomb of Montuherchepschef

KV19 is the description of that ancient Egyptian tomb in the Valley of the Kings, in the Prince Montuherchepschef was buried, the son of Pharaoh Ramesses IX. had.

Architecture

The grave is unfinished and consists of two spacious aisles and a subsequent third, which was not completed. The whole area is 38.68 m long. The decoration of the tomb is painted and shows the prince before various deities. However, in contrast to the Prince tombs in the Valley of the Queens, the prince is always alone and not shown to the king. These paintings are among the best in the Valley of the Kings.

Importance

The grave was originally created for the Prince Sethherchepschef, but then the VIII ascended the throne as Ramses. A tomb for him as regent throne was never found.

Research

Modern explorations According to the grave contained some "later" mummies, probably dating from later burials. From the original grave equipment, however, still found pearls and deposits, which might belong to the coffin of the Prince. Its remains have not yet been discovered.
