Kvívík

Kvívík [k ʰ vʊivʊik ] ( Danish name: Kvivig ) is a place of the Faroe Islands on the west coast of the main island Streymoy.

To commune Kvívík include also the places Leynar, Skælingur, Stykkið and Valur / Nesið. Together, the municipality had the end of 2002 just 580 inhabitants. Kvívík is located south of the larger resort Vestmanna on either side of a small bay and is divided by the river Stora.

The stone church was consecrated on December 13, 1903 and replaced an old wooden church from 1838, because it was too small in view of the growing population. Here was reading on 31 December 1855 newly appointed pastor VU Hammershaimb lesson from the Gospel - in Faroese, then a scandal, as Danish was the sole language of the Church.
