Kwale

Kwale is a small town in Kenya and the capital of the district of the same name. It lies about 30 km southwest of Mombasa. The town has 4200 inhabitants ( 1999).

In Kwale there was also a prehistoric settlement that flourished around the year 250. The site was first excavated in the mid-1960s. It is the eponymous locality of the so-called Kwale goods and associated cultural group found in various places of discovery on the east coast of Africa. It is the earliest Iron Age culture of this area.
