KWin is the window manager and also Wayland compositor the desktop environment KDE. He has been part of the K Desktop Environment 2.0 desktop environment and has replaced the older KWM. KWin will be further developed in connection with the KDE Software Compilation.
A distinctive feature compared to other window managers is the fact that the wallpaper is not used as a so-called root -window, but is superimposed by the KDE desktop, which makes drag-and- drop actions possible. Moreover, KWin supports newer standards such as ICCCM 2.0 and the X Session Management Session Manager (short XSM ). Even advanced focus settings and the treatment of crashed programs are now controlled.
Graphically KWin can be customized with different styles, even styles of IceWM are supported.
