Kyansittha

Kyanzittha was a king of Bagan, who reigned from 1084 to 1113. He was the son of his pre-predecessor Anawrahta. Kyanzittha considered one of the greatest architects of Bagan.

At the beginning of his reign, he married a princess of the Sun, to reinforce the good relations between the kingdom of the Mon and Bagan. Kyanzittha built many temples in Bagan, many of which still stand today, (built 1091-1105 ), for example, the Ananda Temple, the Nagayon Paya Paya and the Abeyadana ( both around 1102/1103 ). In Old Bagan it was 1101/1102 setting up a new royal palace, an elaborately ornamented wooden structure with a high pagoda- like roof structure ( Pyatthat ) over the Throne Hall, which was partially gilded. He also had erected the Myazedi - writing, which was important for deciphering the Pyu script, and represents the first long text in Burmese language.

Successor was not a son but a grandson of Kyanzittha. The Myazedi inscription is a fact and assured that the son of Kyanzittha was not bitter about it. Kyanzittha probably has to be revised and Buddhist texts.
