Kyichu Lhakhang

Kyichu Lhakhang ( Lhakhang also Kyerchu ) is a Buddhist temple in pagoda construction in Paro District in the western part of the Kingdom of Bhutan. The plant was founded probably in the 7th century by Songtsen Gampo is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Bhutan, which was intended to tame the Giant demon. Kyichu Lhakhang is, inter alia, known for its ancient bodhisattva statues in the sanctuary.

On the temple area itself there are two temples which are the same in their design. The older temple was built by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. Another historical importance was the temple in the 13th century when it was placed under the administration of the Drukpa. The Buddhist influence was strengthened in the region through the temple.

The second temple was built in 1968. This is an exact copy of the first temple from the 7th century. The interiors of the temple are richly decorated and adorned.
