Kyle Wellwood

Kyle Wellwood ( born May 16, 1983 in Windsor, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for EV train in the National League A on the position of the center since September 2013. His younger brother Eric is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Wellwood was born in 1983 as the son of a teacher and an engineer in Windsor. After the eleventh grade, he left his French-language high school in order to devote himself entirely to hockey. At this time he played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Belleville Bulls, later moving within the league to the Windsor Spitfires. Even before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 in the fifth round as 134. He also had the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy, William Hanley Trophy and CHL Sportsman of the Year the Award won in the period between 1999 and 2003, which made him one of the most successful Canadian Junior player of these four years.

After very successful years in the Canadian junior hockey, he entered the St. John 's Maple Leafs in 2003 for the first time as a professional ice hockey player. He scored in the 2003 /04 55 points in 76 games for the AHL farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs, which attracted the attention of Pat Quinn, the former head coach of the NHL teams excited. This gave him the chance to be even in the same season his debut in the NHL.

During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season he played another year in St. John's and contributed 87 points in 80 games with. This review highlighted the Canadians fourth best scorers in the AHL. The highlight of his AHL career took place on 30 October 2004, when he scored five goals for the St. John 's Maple Leafs shot against the Cleveland Barons and thus set a new franchise record. In the game year 2005/ 06 he completed 81 games and scored in his NHL rookie season eleven goals and 34 templates.

In the season 2006/07 Wellwood to becoming a leading player on the team the Maple Leafs. At the beginning of the season he ran with Mats Sundin and Darcy Tucker in the first forward line, but after dislocation Tucker in the second row Olexij Ponikarowskyj took his place. On December 16, 2006 Wellwood scored his first NHL hat trick in the game against the New York Rangers. In addition, he could tax even two assists, so he set a new personal record with five points in an NHL game. Because of injuries, he was limited, however, in the course of the season to 48 games in which he scored 42 points.

The Season 2007/ 08 should, however, be a retrograde step before Wellwood. He again missed over 20 games due to injuries and also had his points haul down significantly, so that it only came on eight goals and 13 assists in 59 games. At the end of the season, the Maple Leafs decided not to put the services of Wellwood and placed him on the waiver list. From there it finally committed the Vancouver Canucks, but where he could not prevail in the NHL squad, as he had injured during the summer break. Shortly after the beginning of the season 2008/ 09, the Canadian was sent to the AHL Manitoba Moose to, but was ordered back to Vancouver before its first use. Wellwood took his chance and became a fixture in the team. The following year he also returned significantly fitter and lighter than the previous year. With 25 scorer points, he confirmed the 27 of the previous year. His contract was terminated in 2009/10 but not extended after the end of the season.

In October 2010, Wellwood was committed as a replacement for Chris Bourque Atlant Mytischtschi from the Kontinental Hockey League, with which he signed his first contract with a European club. In January 2011 he finally signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues of the NHL. However, the striker had to be placed 24 hours left on the waiver list before his return because of NHL rules. From there, the San Jose Sharks finally chose him and secured his services instead of the blues. For the Sharks, the striker added a good and formed a successful forward line with Joe Pavelski and Torrey Mitchell. However, management did not renew his contract at the end of the season. In early September, he finally accepted a contract offer from the Premier League rivals Winnipeg Jets.

In September 2013 Kyle Wellwood signed a contract with one month's duration at EV train in the National League A. The striker was engaged in for the injured Josh Holden.

Internationally

At the international level Wellwood came at the U20 World Youth Championship 2003 in Canada for his home country for use. In silver medal winning team of the center five points scorer contributed in six games. In the final, the Canadians documents with 2:3 against arch-rivals Russia.
