Kyoto Tower

The Kyoto Tower (Japanese京都 タワー, Kyoto TAWA ) is a 131 meter high observation tower in Kyoto, Japan. A viewing platform at 100 meters above sea level offers a 360 ° panoramic view of the city.

The Kyoto Tower was completed in December 1964 and is located directly opposite the main station in the city center. The tower was designed by Makoto Tanahashi from Kyoto University. The cost was 380 million yen.

In contrast to the Eiffel Tower or Tokyo Tower no steel frame was used. With regard to the form it resembles a lighthouse. A nine-storey building with a height of 30.8 m, where there is a hotel and several shops are located, serves as the base of the tower. Then there is the restaurant "Sky Lounge" with three floors. The tower itself has a weight of about 800 tons. In clear weather a view is possible up to Osaka.
