Kypseli, Athens

Kypseli (Greek Κυψελη ( f sg ) ) is a neighborhood in the north of the Greek capital of Athens in the 6th borough. Kypseli is one of the most populous parts of the city and the most densely populated districts of the capital.

History

The development of Kypseli the city began in the 1930s with the construction of houses and the first modern apartment buildings in Athens. The style of this development was characterized by influences of the Bauhaus and Art Deco. Generous green spaces such as pedion Areos and Fokionos Negri street into the neighborhood with many apartment buildings from the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s, appealing to the middle and upper middle class. Large department districts were the Kypselis Square, Patission Street, Kypselis road, Fokionos Negri Street and Amerikis Square. In the 1980s, increasingly attracted immigrants to the basement and the small apartments of the building, which dropped over time the value of the property. As commercial areas Patission, Kypselis St, Kerkyra, Spetson and the areas around the Fokionos Negri Street remained as of course the plateia Kypseli (central square ), which was converted into a pedestrian zone and is lined with cafés and equipped.

Infrastructure

Currently working on a metro station which will connect 2016 Kypseli to the underground network of the capital (line number 4).
