Kyra Vayne

Kyra Vayne (actually: Kyra Knopmuss; * 1916 in Petrograd, † 2001 in London) was a Russian opera singer (soprano ).

Life

She came from a noble family, who fled to England during the October Revolution in 1924. Having initially sung in revues and variety shows, she was regularly heard on the radio during the Second World War. She performed with various opera companies in England and has performed in opera houses in Barcelona, London and Florence. After the death of her manager her career came in the 1960s to a halt and it was forgotten.

In the 1990s, the company Preiser Records brought out for the first time a CD with recordings of old Kyra Vayne. These were images that had once been made for demonstration purposes, as well as radio broadcasts from Vaynes private archive. As a result of this publication, the media again showed interest in her. She gave interviews, appeared on TV shows and in 1999 published her autobiography " A Voice Reborn ".
