Kyriakos of Makuria

Cyriacus was a king of Makuria ( a medieval, Christian state in modern Sudan ), who ruled from about 747-768.

Around the year 748 was the Patriarch of Alexandria, Michael, captured by the Emir of Egypt Abd el -Malik, as he stood with Cyriacus in the correspondence, but probably also to extort money. Cyriacus demanded the release of the patriarchs, whereupon the Emir did not respond. Cyriacus then moved with an army to Egypt, reportedly with 100,000 riders. He pulled plundering and murdering the country and came to Cairo, where he rested with his army outside the city. Meanwhile, the Emir was free the patriarchs, what Cyriacus withdrew after Makuria.
