Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving (born 23 March 1992 Melbourne, Australia ) is an Australian- American basketball player.

Irving played after high school for a year with Duke University. After his Freshmen season, Irving filed for the NBA Draft and was selected in the 2011 NBA Draft at position 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Childhood and high school

Kyrie Irving was born in Melbourne. Irving has dual American and Australian citizenship. His father Drederick played basketball at Boston University in the U.S. and later professionally in Australia. At the age of two years Kyrie Irving returned with his family back to the U.S. and settled in West Orange, New Jersey. When Irving was four years old, his mother passed away, so his father had to raise him and his two sisters alone. Irving is developed on St. Patrick's High School in New Jersey for great talent. He participated in the prestigious Nike Hoop Summit games of the McDonald 's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic part. In the latter he was appointed jointly with Harrison Barnes to Co - MVP. He also participated in the FIBA Americas Championship in 2010 and won in part with the United States the gold medal. He was before his first collegiate game as a future NBA players and has been performed on all Scout lists among the top 5 players in the country.

College

Kyrie Irving played for the Duke University under coach Mike Krzyzewski. Due to a foot injury Irving missed a large part of the season. He and his team was eliminated in the NCAA tournament in the Sweet Sixteen against the University of Arizona. Irving, scoring 28 points.

In his first and only year for the Blue Devils, he reached in 11 games 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He was honored as NCAA Freshman of the Year for this service.

NBA

Due to an exchange between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers during the season, the Cavaliers got the right selection of the Clippers for the NBA Draft. With a probability of 2.8% to win the first pick in the draft lottery, the Cavaliers landed the first pick.

Irving was selected first by the Cavaliers. A few minutes later they chose Tristan Thompson with another talent in fourth place.

On December 26, 2011 Irving completed his first season game for the Cavaliers. When 96:104 defeat against the Toronto Raptors, he came up with 6 points and 7 assists. Two days later, Irving was able to contribute 14 points and 7 assists for the first win of the season the Cavaliers against the Detroit Pistons.
