Kyritz Friary

In the Kyritzer old town are the remains of the former Franciscan monastery Kyritz. Even today, the arched windows and the arch ribs of the early Gothic hall church can be seen. Although there was only around the turn of the century in the town hall Bible named 1225 as the Year of the monastery church, but the existing building of the second half of the 14th century is attributed. History

In the year 1539 took place in Kyritz the Reformation, after which the Franciscan monastery was dissolved in 1552. In the same year the abbey church and the adjoining building in the possession of the city Kyritz went on with the proviso to use it for the poor. Later followed by other owners. Several decades served the church as a garrison church for the military stationed. 1781 had become derelict monastery buildings were auctioned for the purpose of Demolition. These included the church, the cemetery and the then still standing monastery walls. According to the contract had to stop the still existing parts of the building of the monastery church. On one part of the former cemetery residential and barn buildings were constructed.

Current

Since 1995, the historic club " Kyritzer Knattermimen " the monastery garden directed restore. Among the ruins of the abbey church, a cabaret for 300 spectators was built.
