Kysak

Kysak ( until 1927 slovak also " Kysag "; Hungarian Sároskőszeg - to 1902 Kőszeg ) a town in eastern Slovakia with 1426 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011). It lies on the mountains Čierna hora in the valley of Hornád, about 16 km from Košice and 18 km from Prešov away.

The village was first mentioned in 1269, then in 1335 for the first time in writing as Kuzek.

The municipality's territory fought in September 1944 partisans against the German Wehrmacht. On 20 December 1944, the station was bombed and four days later razed to the ground. During the fighting, 70 % of the buildings in the village were destroyed.

Today it is again a major railway hub: the double track main railway Žilina - Košice take the route to Prešov and Poland ( see station Kysak ).
