Kyushu National Museum

The National Museum Kyushu (in Japanese九州 国立 博物馆, Kyushu Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan ) was opened in Dazaifu ( Fukuoka, Japan), 2006. After a ten -year period of preparation, this was after the Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum and the Kyoto National Museum Nara, the first new of such a museum for over a hundred years. With its vaulted roof, which covers an area of ​​160 x 80 m, the impressive steel and glass structure of the building nestles into the surrounding hills.

The museum guards a rich collection of objects that cover the development of the island of Kyūshū and its close cooperation with the Korean Peninsula and the Chinese mainland from the prehistoric Jōmon - up to the Meiji period.

With its in-house department for conservation, it also serves as a center for the preservation of important cultural assets in Western Japan area.
