L'Albère

L' Albère (Catalan Albera ) is a commune with 83 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Orientales of the Languedoc -Roussillon region. It belongs administratively to the district Ceret and the same canton Ceret.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 25 kilometers south of Perpignan on the Chaîne des Albères, which forms the eastern foothills of the Pyrenees. It ranges in the south to the border of Spain. Neighboring communities in France are:

  • Montesquieu -des- Albères and Villelongue -dels- Monts in the north,
  • Laroque -des- Albères in the Northeast,
  • Perthus in the southwest and
  • Les Cluses in the West.

The main town of the municipality bears the name of Saint- Jean -de- L'Albère. A variety of mountain streams drain the municipal area in the northwest and are collected from the river Tech.

Transport links

L' Albère lies off about regional transport links, as motorway ( A9) and rail in the neighboring town of Le Perthus use the mountain pass Col de Perthus on the way to Spain.
