L'Ametlla del Vallès

L' Ametlla del Vallès is a Catalan city in the province of Barcelona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Vallès Oriental.

Location

L' Ametlla del Vallès is situated about 30 kilometers north of Barcelona between the valleys of the Congost and Tenes.

History

Within the district, a Neolithic grave was found and remains of settlements of the Iberians and the Romans.

At the beginning of the 10th century belonged to L' Ametlla Emma of Barcelona, ​​the daughter of Count Wilfried I. ( Guifré el PILOS ), and Abbess of the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses. They ordered the construction of the first parish church of Sant Genís.

As of 1059, L' Ametlla part of the fief and the later barony of Montbui. The following five centuries remained L' Ametlla under the rule of the barons of Montbui.

Culture and sights

On the highest point of the municipality is the parish church of Sant Genís. The first consecration 932 followed in 1123 after major renovations and extensions re- consecration by Oleguer, the archbishop of Tarragona. From this ancient church ruins can only be found in the current building.

Above the village is located in 370 m height, built in the 12th century hermitage of Sant Nicolau.

Economy and Transport

The highway is the primary C17 connection with Barcelona, Vic and Pyrenees dar. Along this road, numerous businesses have located, including the food and furniture industries.
