L (New York City Subway service)

The line L and 14th Street - Canarsie Local is a subway line of the New York City Subway. The sign is light gray in the stations and on the official subway map, since it uses the BMT Canarsie Line through Manhattan.

The L runs 24/7 between 8th Ave and Canarsie. Always runs as LocalSystem, firstly because no express tracks are available and it is the only line that uses the BMT Canarsie Line. That is why it is also the only normal line in New York.

Therefore it is often used as ' guinea pigs ' for new techniques, such as OPTO (One Person Train Operation ), display boards with waiting times in real time or CBTC (Computer Based Train Control).
