L- selectride is a sterically hindered and thus a selective reducing agent for ketones and trademark of Sigma- Aldrich for lithium tri-sec -butyl (hydrido ) borate. It is available as a solution in THF. The brand name is in common parlance clearer than the systematic name. It finds its application for example in Permutationsreaktion. A comparison between the reactions each led by L- selectride and MeTi ( OiPr) 3 illustrates the background of a Permutationsreaktion.
The reduction is carried out usually at low temperatures ( -78 ° C). However, cases are known in which a temperature rise to a better stereoselectivity and even reversal of selectivity results.
