La Bamba (Film)

The film La Bamba from 1987 tells the life story of musician Ritchie Valens, who with the songs Donna and La Bamba had big hits and at the age of 17 years was killed in a plane crash.

Action

The focus of the film is Ritchie Valens ' rise, his love for Donna, he has devoted his big hit and his conflicts with his alcoholic half-brother Bob, Ritchie's success is difficult to cope with.

Just when Ritchie's career appears unstoppable and he forges marriage plans with Donna, he comes along with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper in a plane crash (which is not shown in the film) lost their lives. His family learns the tragic news from the radio.

Background

The film crew worked closely with Ritchie Valens ' family. Some of the family members, as Ritchie's mother Connie Valenzuela, took on small roles in the film.

The scene in which Lou Diamond Phillips gets into the aircraft several times by Ritchie Valens ' real sister ( Connie Lemos ), which was on the set and only 6 years old when Valens died, was interrupted. She fell Phillips around his neck and cried: "! ? Ritchie Do not go Please do not get on the plane Why did you have to die" (Eng. "Do not go Ritchie! Please do not go on the plane, why did you have to die ?") Phillips had become for them to Ritchie as himself later confirmed the incident.

Film Music

The soundtrack to the film was a huge commercial success. The title song La Bamba, who had been a 1958 hit for Ritchie Valens, was re-recorded by Los Lobos and brought it in the U.S. and in the UK at # 1

Awards

La Bamba in 1988 was nominated for a Golden Globe for best drama.
