La Bastide-Clairence

La Bastide- Clairence is a commune with 1010 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district of Bayonne and the canton of La Bastide- Clairence.

The bastide founded as a medieval town plan in 1288 is classified as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).

Geography

The place is located in the French Basque Country in the historic province of Basse- Navarre in a very water-rich area at the river Joyeuse (also called Aran ) 42 km east of Hendaye. Neighboring municipalities are Bardos in the north, Hasparren in the west, the south and Ayherre Orègue in the east.
