La Boca

La Boca is a neighborhood in the east of the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires and the most famous of the 48 districts of the city. The district has 46 494 inhabitants well (as of 2001) on an area of 3.3 km ². This corresponds to a population density of 14,089 inhabitants per km ².

La Boca is located at the mouth of the Riachuelo River in the Río de la Plata, and therefore has its name ( Boca = Spanish for " mouth "). To the west of La Boca is Barracas, in the north are Puerto Madero and San Telmo.

Description

La Boca was the end of the 19th century as a quarter of Italian immigrants who worked as industrial workers mostly. Many of the first inhabitants came from the Italian port city of Genoa. 1882 La Boca broke loose after a long general strike of Argentina, and the rebels raised the Genoese flag, but was brought down immediately by the then Argentine President Julio Argentino Roca again.

Today, La Boca is popular with tourists because of his original homes. They were built from the sheet metal scrapped ships and painted with ship paint colorful. Many artists praise their works on the sidewalks of the street El Caminito in ( 'little way' ).

La Boca is also for the football stadium La Bombonera (Spanish: " box of chocolates " ) of the football club Boca Juniors known. Its colors (yellow and blue) is due to a Swedish ship that passed by in the moment of creation.

Additional area attractions include the theater district of La Ribera, the tango halls and Italian restaurants. Even in everyday life, the Italian influence is felt to this day.
